My Mr. Coffee Iced Tea Maker has been slowly dying. I have had it for several years and wasn't sure what I was going to do when it finally died. When I was growing up my mom would make "sun tea" so I decided to give it a try. The only jar large enough for making tea was a gallon size jar that I normally use for sugar. After a quick washing I filled it with water and some tea bags.
When I moved even further north than I already did, I quit making sun tea because the sun didn't always get hot enough. So now, I just boil the tea in about a cup of water and dilute it.
ReplyDeleteI have two of those half gallon jars that I bought jalapeno's in at Sam's.. Usually one is enough for me but when I have company coming I rotate them.. I've also found that you can cold brew them indoors when the weather isn't nice.. in fact, even tho its going to be sunny today I have mine sitting in the kitchen window and it's almost ready to drink.
ReplyDeleteAlso if you're in a real big hurry you can toss 3 tea bags in a 2 cup measuring cup of water and microwave for one minute.. let it sit till it's very dark then pour it into your jar of water.
We make suntea all the time, but when I'm in a hurry, I just toss some tea bags ina pot of boiling water -- then add to pitcher with running cold water from tap.
ReplyDeleteI love sun tea, but in the winter - put 5 tea bags in a quart jar, run through the mircowave for 4 min. dump liquit into pitcher, fill jar up again (using same tea bags) run through microwave for 5 min. again and dump liquid into pitcher. Then fill pitcher with water - we drink tea all the time and this is a quick way without another gadget....
