Grocery Store Deal Yet Again

Each time I go to town I always try to stop at the grocery store to check out any unadvertised deal. Today I found bar-b-que sauce on sale for 99-cents a bottle; plus each bottle had a 35-cent coupon attached to it.I was expecting to pay 64-cent per bottle but was pleasantly surprised when each coupon was doubled and my final cost was 29-cents per bottle!

Fall Garden Prep

We have begun the preparations for our fall garden. Having never had a fall garden I am somewhat anxious to see what it will be like. After reading a magazine article on the subject I learned shade is needed to keep the hot August sun from killing newly emerging seedlings; so, Pat began planning and has come up with a solution.
Metal ribs draped with fabric should make enough shade to protect the seedlings; plus I am planning on setting out a soaker hose to keep the ground moist.
The plan for now is to start carrots, which did not come up at all this year, lettuce, spinach and broccoli.

Grocery Store Deal

One of our local grocery stores has been running weekly deals to bring in customers. The deal looks something like this;
Buy this brisket and get the baking potatoes, salad and peach pie for free.
I have never taken advantage of these deals because the meat you have to buy is usually too expensive. However, today I was able to take advantage of this weeks deal by accident.
Each time I go to a grocery store I look at the marked down meat. Today I found ground beef marked down from $2.49 a pound to $1.49 a pound; so I picked up 3 packages.
When I was at the check out lane the cashier told me the store was offering free items with the purchase of 2-pounds ground beef. I promptly told my cashier the meat was marked down and I didn't think it would work with that weeks deal. However, the cashier assured me I still qualified for the deal.
So, I received cheese, tortillas, re-fried beans, taco seasoning and sour cream....all for free!

Apple Goodness

Recently I found 3-pound bags of apples on sale for $1.50 per bag; I purchased 4 bags.
I had just enough apples to fill 7-quarts;
And enough juice for jelly or syrup.
Not too bad for a 6-dollar investment.

Garden Fresh Green Beans

This evening I picked our first batch of green beans.
After a good washing I cooked them with some red potatoes. I wish the potatoes had come from the garden but maybe next year I will time it better.
After boiling I seasoned them with salt and pepper.
Oh my, the flavor was amazing!

Sewing on the Go

Recently a blog friend ask how Elizabeth was doing with her cross stitch; sadly my reply was she hasn't been working on it lately because of her summer activities. After this e-mail conversation I got to thinking; when I go to town I always bring handwork for me to do so why shouldn't Elizabeth have some handwork too!
Today when we went to town I brought Elizabeth's sewing basket filled with her current cross stitch project.It worked out so well, she worked on it as we drove from one errand to another.
I wish I had thought to do this sooner. Thank you blog friend for helping me to start thinking!

Rotisserie Chicken

We love to eat rotisserie chicken.Slow cooking a chicken makes the meat so tender and juicy with lots of flavor.
The best part of the chicken is the leftovers; we love using them for casadias.

I purchased my rotisserie cooker used at an estate sale several years ago for 10-dollars; it has paid for itself over and over again.
