What Can a Dollar Buy?

I have heard many people say "You Can't Buy Much With A Dollar Anymore"....here is what I bought with a dollar.A vintage scrap quilt.
The texture of this quilt is amazing.
I love all the vintage fabrics this quilt has been made with.
The quilt has some worn spots here and there.
I so love how the whole quilt has been hand quilted.
Sometimes a dollar can buy a lot.

Hidden Tomatoes

This morning I managed to move half of the tomato plants into the garden...poor little things, they look so pitiful when first moved.
Last week, while pulling weeds, we noticed some of the weeds looked like tomatoes and upon closer inspection we discovered they were tomatoes! We have one very large tomato plant growing in the middle of the carrots;
Several plants growing in the onions;
Another very large tomato plant growing in between two lettuce plants;
A tomato plant growing beside the spinach;
And beside the broccoli;
And a small tomato plant just beginning to grow right next to a turnip.
Apparently when the chickens took over the garden last year they scattered tomato seeds everywhere. But that's OK with me, it's exciting discovering them in unexpected places!

Another Look in the Garden

I planted my green beans in between the potatoes soon after learning the mechanic wasn't going to get the tractor up and running as quickly as we needed.
The broccoli I planted is really growing; this is my second time trying to grow it. The chickens ate the plants last year before they got very big so we never even had a chance to eat any.
One of the turnips was big enough to pick but it didn't taste like I remembered growing up; it taste similar to a radish but I'm not sure if I will eat anymore.
I am still behind on all that I want to do in the garden but it's getting there; I hope to move my tomato plants outdoors this weekend and I still need to plant jalapeno and bell peppers.

Coupon Tip

My notebook system is working well for my coupons with one small problem. The baseball card pages are sometimes too small for over sized coupons.
To solve this problem I took a page protector and divided it into 3 sections and stitched the dividing lines on my sewing machine.
I then took scissors and carefully cut a slit in each section.
My oversize coupons, as well as my printable coupons, now fit better and are easier to see.
Sewing the page protectors took a little time but was well worth it.

Ready for Jelly Season

Many years ago I stumbled upon a truly awesome bargain...Sure Jell for 50-cents a box. I bought all the store had and stored it in the fridge. Last year I used the last of my Sure Jell and was desperate to replace it with another bargain.
My next bargain happened recently while I was shipping at Wal-Mart. I found double packs of Sure Jell marked on clearance for $2 a pack which comes out to $1 per box; not as good as the 50-cent a box but still a great deal.
Sure Jell tends to be the most expensive part of making jelly so I am happy to once again be well stocked for the next several years.
