Bible Study Goodies

Elizabeth's Bible Study group has assorted snacks after the lesson. Each mom brings the treat and this week I decided on a Turkey Theme since Thursday is Thanksgiving.
A couple of weeks ago I stumbled upon these cute turkey bags; which are basically a Ziploc bag and a cardboard topper. At 80-percent off I couldn't resist.
Each bag has been filled with homemade caramel popcorn.
Plus, I made some cute turkey cookies for the girls.
And here is everything all packed up just waiting for this evening.
I think the little girls are going to be so excited!

Making Crafts

I am so not a crafty person.
Sewing yes!
But oh not crafts!
Until today that is.....
Elizabeth and I made a wreath for the door. Even though it has an empty spot on the inside, where I attached the leaves a little too far to one side, and the bow was made with the wrong ribbon......I'm still happy with the overall appearance :o)

First Fire of the Season

Today our backyard was covered in sleet;
So we built our first fire of the season.
Elizabeth has been anxious to read by the fire once again.
And she just had to roast marshmallows too!

Preparing for Winter

We are slowly but surely getting the dead trees cut up into firewood.

Each time Pat or Jonathan cut a section of tree Elizabeth and I gather the logs and haul them to the back porch.
 We then separate the small branches into one pile;
And the large logs into another pile.
While out stacking, Elizabeth discovered a wasp nest inside a hollow section of a log. I sure was glad there were no wasp flying around!
Winter is suppose to arrive on Friday :o)

Pigs in a Blanket

I have always loved eating pigs in a blanket, especially for breakfast.
Recently I read how others wrapped their little smokies in bacon, added brown sugar, and baked. Well, I liked the idea of wrapping the meat in bacon and decided to give it a try; minus the sugar. I really loved the taste the bacon added.
Next I took my bacon coated smokies and made a batch of pigs in a blanket. Wow, were they ever good!
I am forever spoiled.
These were absolutely the best pigs in a blanket I have ever had.

Riley Blake Boy Crazy Quilt pt. 3

The quilt top went together nicely and I must say I'm very excited with how the top turned out.
For the batting I decided to try an 80-percent cotton 20-percent poly. When I first took it out of the package I wasn't impressed as it just didn't feel like a cotton batting.
Plus, it was just as thin as cotton batting; I've been frustrated lately with how thin fabrics and batting have been. To solve this problem I decided to double the batting for the baby quilt.
Surprisingly the batting worked very well.
As I did the quilting it felt just like cotton.
Plus the second layer made the quilt feel plush.
I'm so pleased with the end results.

Riley Blake Boy Crazy Quilt pt. 2

Work on the baby quilt has been slow but steady. I've been keeping notes along the way so I don't forget what I'm doing.
Because I made up the pattern I've been taking it slow in hopes of catching mistakes as they are made. My first mistake was in the size; after laying out the pieces I realized the quilt was coming out too large.
It's a good thing I had a lot of leftover fabric.
I worked out a second pattern that is more along the size I was wanting.
Sewing has begun and the quilt top is taking shape :O)
