Death of an Iron
Several years ago I purchase a Rowenta iron that I instantly fell in love with. I liked it so much I purchased a second Rowenta iron. Then, several months ago, my first Rowenta made a horrible burning smell, got very, very hot and died.
Then today my second Rowenta iron did the very same thing; a horrible burning smell and then death!
So now I am on a search for a replacement iron. What brand of iron do you use? What do you like and dislike about your iron?

I dislike stacks of clothes that need ironing, so talking about ironing is a touchy subject!! (no pun intended ;-)
Nothing fancy about my iron. Just a nice steam iron and I've had it for 4 years. Probably paid no more than $20-something at Wallyworld.
I can't believe your Rowenta's died..
I have a Sunbeam Steam Master iron that Mercha gave me for my B-day.. it has a retractable cord and fairly fancy dancy.. she wouldn't tell me what she paid for it but she swares it wasn't all that much.
My other iron was a Sunbeam too and I had it for umpteen years.. it never actaully died, I got rid of it because I'd knocked it onto the floor so many times the case was breaking off.
Good luck on buying a new one.
I have a Sunbeam that I like - not as much as my Rowenta, but it died after 13 years.....wow you've cut up lots of shirts - I can't wait to see it all laid out!

I bought one of the spiffy new Rowentas. It is my 3rd. My first one is still kicking but it is a steamer model with the huge water well and I keep that on my big iron for big items. It doesn't fit in my sewing room nook. The other Rowenta spits. So I can only use it for dry things. Love them though.
I've always wanted a Rowenta...but now you are making me think twice! I have just a plain Black & Decker from Target. I think we got it as a wedding gift...so it has lasted 12 years! But, it didn't do much ironing until I started quilting about 18 months ago :)
